Commission FAQ’s
Q: How do I commission a piece from you?
A: Fill out the form above, or you can always start with a quick Instagram message/email. I welcome any and all questions and will help you pick the perfect package in your price range.
Q: How long does a commission take?
A: Generally 2 weeks after your consultation, one month at the most. If for some reason it takes longer I’ll discuss it with you personally.
Q: I’m on a tight budget. Do you offer less expensive packages or payment plans?
A: There are certain costs I have to cover, like the stock images I use to create these pieces and time spent. However we can always create smaller scale composites for less, or you can pay me in 2-3 payments depending on the price of the piece. Full background changes will always be charged accordingly but photo manipulations can be purchased for less.
Q: Can you edit a photo another photographer took of me?
A: Only with their permission. Copyright laws prohibit me from altering anyone else’s work without consent. Please ask if you have any copyright related questions.
Q: Can you edit a smartphone photo?
A: Yes! In fact most clients send me images taken on their smartphones.
Q: I’ve commissioned you before and it was less expensive. What happened?
A: As my technique improves I spend more time per photo and they become more detail oriented. Prices are always subject to change, and my price now also covers a membership to a legitimate stock image service so that I can provide the highest quality images. In short, images are now larger, more crisp and more realistic which requires more editing time and therefore higher rates.
Q: When do you require payment? Before or after?
A: We can speak about your individual situation if necessary, but I generally require payment before the finished commission piece can be delivered or at the time of the delivery.
Q: I applied for a commission and haven’t heard back from you yet. What should I do?
A: Please reach out! I’m a one woman show and admittedly make mistakes, although sometimes business is just booming and it takes me longer to reply than I intend. My Instagram direct messages are always open for quicker response times - contact me at @roxannecarol if you have any questions or concerns.
Cancellations, Refunds and Do-Overs
During your commission consultation I will ask you for a direction, color palettes, and whatever else helps me get a grasp on what kind of edit you’re looking for. You also always have the option of giving me creative freedom if you’re unsure. Once the commission process is started I will go over the unique concept I have created for you and ask you for feedback in regards to overall changes. At this stage no stock images have been purchased and the piece is still being composed. You will either receive a first draft or a detailed concept - this is the last point of the process when large changes can still be made. Once you’ve approved a the direction t it will only be possible to make small changes going forward. You are charged for hours put in and stock image fees. Any large changes requested after your initial approval will be charged accordingly. Full refunds are only available before the first draft is approved, past that point you are paying for time spent. My goal is to always have happy clients and I’m here to answer any questions you may have.
